Sigma Automation designs, builds and commissions distributed control
systems, safety instrumented systems and metering solutions for
refineries, chemical plants and oil and gas facilities — the full
project cycle, from site survey to warranty support.
We take responsibility for the whole scope of work needed to create an
automated system — from the site survey and technical specification
through to commissioning and putting the system into operation.
Process control systems
Automated control of continuous and batch processes, built on the platform that fits the facility rather than a distribution agreement.
DCS-based process control systems
PLC and SCADA-based process control systems
Safety instrumented systems (ESD)
Fire alarm and fire extinguishing automation
Supervisory control and telemetry systems
Metering systems
Custody transfer and operational metering for gas, oil and petroleum products, delivered as packaged or modular units.
Gas quantity and quality measurement systems
Oil and petroleum product metering units
Flow computers and data processing units
Vortex, turbine, ultrasonic, Coriolis and orifice packages
Energy resource metering (water, heat, electricity)
Security systems
Engineering and technical means of protection for industrial sites, integrated into a single information environment.
Access control systems
Video surveillance and industrial television
Perimeter security and thermal imaging
Fire alarm and fire extinguishing systems
Integrated security operations centers
Systems
DCS or PLC and SCADA
The architecture is chosen from the process, not from habit. Picking the
wrong class of system costs far more over the life of the plant than the
difference in the initial licence fee.
Distributed control system
PREFERRED WHEN
A continuous process is automated and downtime must be minimised
The facility is hazardous and process safety governs the design
The system is implemented in stages and expanded while running
Changes are required without shutting the process down
A large distributed facility is controlled from a single center
The I/O count is high and deep integration with APC, MES or PIMS is required
PLC and SCADA
PREFERRED WHEN
The process is a batch process where shutdowns are not critical
The facility is local and not classified as hazardous
The system is a series product replicated across similar units
No major expansion is expected during operation
The I/O count is moderate
Integration with external systems stays limited
Delivery
The full project cycle
Every stage is a documented gate with a deliverable the client signs off.
Nothing moves to site until it has been proven off site.
01
Site survey
Facility inspection and a technical report on the systems already in place.
02
Technical specification
Requirements agreed and frozen before any engineering hours are spent.
03
Basic design
Control philosophy, architecture, I/O lists and equipment selection.
04
Detailed design
Loop diagrams, panel layouts, cable and termination schedules.
05
Application software
Controller logic and operator graphics built against the functional specification.
06
Assembly and procurement
Cabinet manufacture, equipment supply and incoming inspection.
07
Factory acceptance test
Witnessed simulation of the complete system before it leaves the workshop.
08
Installation
On-site installation and installation supervision at the client facility.
09
Commissioning
Loop checks, live tuning, site acceptance test and operator training.
10
Support
Warranty and post-warranty maintenance, diagnostics and modernisation.
Industries
Where our systems run
Processes where uptime, repeatability and traceability decide the
economics of the plant.
Oil refining
Process units, tank farms, product loading and off-site facilities.
Chemicals and petrochemicals
Reactor units, batch processes, utilities and effluent treatment.
Oil and gas production
Treatment units, booster stations, well cluster telemetry and metering points.
LNG and terminals
Loading terminals, berths, storage and off-site infrastructure control.
Power generation
Boiler unit control, balance of plant, gas regulating and fuel handling.
Water and utilities
Pumping stations, treatment lines and remote site supervisory control.
Platforms
Vendor-independent engineering
We work across the major international control platforms and select
hardware on the merits of the application and the lifecycle cost to the
client.

Our engineers keep their certification current through the training centers
of the equipment and software manufacturers, so the platform decision is
made on engineering grounds and stays the client property throughout the
life of the system.
What a control system from us has to deliver
Reliability
Proven control platforms, redundancy where the process requires it, and diagnostics that surface a fault before it stops production.
Safety
Interlock and shutdown logic engineered to the required safety integrity level and tested against the cause and effect matrix.
Flexibility
Architectures that absorb new units and new requirements without a rebuild, and configuration the client team can maintain.
Clarity
Operator graphics and documentation that make the abnormal state obvious, so shift personnel act on information rather than on memory.
About
Engineering-led, based in Dubai
Sigma Automation L.L.C-FZ is an industrial automation company licensed in
the Meydan Free Zone, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We work with plant
owners, EPC contractors and equipment manufacturers who need a control
system partner that reads the P&IDs before quoting.
Our licensed activities cover the installation of industrial process
control equipment, trading in measuring and control systems, and the
design and planning of computer systems that integrate hardware, software
and communication technologies. A single contract can therefore carry a
project from specification through to a commissioned, supported plant.
System integration is not series production. Every system is engineered
for one specific facility, which is why we invest in a library of
reusable, reviewed control objects and still treat each project as a new
engineering problem.
Dubai gives us a practical base for projects across the GCC, the wider
Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.
